I thought it would be interesting to start a thread where people posted some of their favorite quotes from movies or television shows. Feel free to post humorous quotes if you wish, but I'd like this to be primarily a thread of philosophical, spiritual, and inspirational quotations. Also, rate the movie or television program from which the quotation came on a scale of one to four (four being the highest.) One last thing: let's try to keep this thread from turning into a running list of quotes from the same source (e.g. three pages of Star Trek quotations.)

I have no idea to this day what those two Italian ladies were singing about. Truth is, I don't want to know. Some things are best left unsaid. I'd like to think they were singing about something so beautiful, it can't be expressed in words, and makes your heart ache because of it. I tell you, those voices soared higher and farther than anybody in a gray place dares to dream. It was like some beautiful bird flapped into our drab little cage and made those walls dissolve away, and for the briefest of moments, every last man in Shawshank felt free.
I find I'm so excited, I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head. I think it's the excitement only a free man can feel, a free man at the start of a long journey whose conclusion is uncertain. I hope I can make it across the border. I hope to see my friend and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope.

I actually heard the quote from A Few Good Men referenced in an Orthodox sermon I listened to on line once. It certainly applies to a guy like me. If God granted me my wish and revealed Himself (Truth) in His fullness all at once, I fear I would end up like King Solomon as a babbling madman. Lord knows in my broken state I cannot handle the whole Truth. May He continue to bless me with Understanding, in His will, His way, and in His perfect discernment of time.

I might be breaking the rules here Gebre!  While we are all sinners and fall short of God's glory it is also from Walt Whitman who allegedly lived a very questionable life to say the least. Then again who am I to judge and the man wrote some great poems near as I can tell... "...what good amid these, O me, O life?" Answer. "That you are here - that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. That the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?" Interesting to me that as a young man searching for something this poem was very powerful indeed. Now that I know what I'm searching for, and strive to grow in the author of this powerful play we call life, this poem means more than I could have possibly imagined back then. God's grace is surely given freely to all for it has been given to a fool like me. Lord God I love you, have mercy, and continue to purify my sinful heart. Continue to bless me with the Holy Spirit strengthening my faith for my faith is still weak. Forgive me Lord Jesus, I have little faith. What will my verse be? Hopefully whatever God wills. I'm really glad you posted that, Alan. Lately I've been feeling very uncertain about my future -- I've been thinking a lot about the possibility of becoming Orthodox which, in addition to the anxiety it produces directly, for me entails also the question "Does considering leaving the Catholic Church make one a bad Catholic?" Sounds like a line from Police Academy. I was trying to make a joke but messed it up. I remember that actor (GW Bailey) being in a biblical movie, but it wasn't St. Paul he played, but St. Barnabas:  The movie though was titled Paul the Apostle |

I might be breaking the rules here Gebre! While we are all sinners and fall short of God's glory it is also from Walt Whitman who allegedly lived a very questionable life to say the least. Then again who am I to judge and the man wrote some great poems near as I can tell... "...what good amid these, O me, O life?" Answer. "That you are here - that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. That the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?" Interesting to me that as a young man searching for something this poem was very powerful indeed. Now that I know what I'm searching for, and strive to grow in the author of this powerful play we call life, this poem means more than I could have possibly imagined back then. God's grace is surely given freely to all for it has been given to a fool like me. Lord God I love you, have mercy, and continue to purify my sinful heart. Continue to bless me with the Holy Spirit strengthening my faith for my faith is still weak. Forgive me Lord Jesus, I have little faith. What will my verse be? Hopefully whatever God wills. This morning let me begin by offering peace, grace, and love to you all. God bless! Great quotes and great thoughts my friend! Selam |
