Paul Verhoeven Finds Backing And A Writer For Controversial Jesus Christ MovieVerhoeven’s take on the life of Jesus Christ discounts all of the miracles that inform the New Testament. That includes the immaculate conception, and the resurrection. Verhoeven doesn’t believe any of them happened.... He is fixated on Christ not for the miracles depicted in the blockbuster film The Passion Of The Christ, but rather in the enduring power of the message Christ preached which have kept him first and foremost in the minds of Christians for 2000 years. Verhoeven feels too many take Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins as a free pass to misbehave, because they think they don’t have to take responsibility for their actions.

I never knew that the "immaculate conception" was found in the Bible. I have heard of the Virgin birth. Whoever wrote that article has obviously not studied much theology or Bible history.

Nearly every RC I know who ain't on online boards or ain't been through seminary makes the same mistake.

We cannot legislate morality by passing laws controlling firearms. The only evil we can combat lies within our hearts. We need stronger laws to protect the moral foundation of society against the evil of gay marriage.

All movies about Jesus the Christ are controversial to someone. "Verhoeven feels too many take Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins as a free pass to misbehave, because they think they don’t have to take responsibility for their actions." Sounds as though he's lived among the 'Once saved, Always saved' crowd too long.

Why'd you cut out the best part of the story? Perhaps Verhoeven is fed up with the once-saved, always-saved crowd? Or has he labeled all Christians as hypocrites? Unfortunately my brother is in a cult church that teaches the once-saved, always-saved "doctrine" with a twist. He left the Catholic Church because of Papal infallibility, but now believes that he has personal infallibility when reading the infallible Bible. This brother also believes that repentance and personal discipline are works! And of course, works are to be avoided because we are obviously saved by faith alone. So, he gets drunk and then says that he is washed in the Blood of Jesus, and that his sins are pre-forgiven, so there is no need for metanoia.

Yes, and I will give an alcoholic spin to Luther's famous quote ... A little bit of wine is good for the stomach, a little more will help one relax, and still a little more will help one to sleep, so soon a mighty flood of alcohol will flow. Ah, it tastes so good. The more the merrier. God would not have created this wonderful alcohol to go to waste, so sin boldly.

The parts of this film that will be considered blasphemous are many, among them that Jesus is the product of a rape committed by a Roman soldier. By casting aside Christ's divinity and His Holy Resurrection, the author has cast Christ as a very modernistic and politically incorrect zealot for his time. "Jesus’ ideals are about the utopia of human behavior, about how we should treat each other, how we should step into the shoes of our enemy.”
