St Timothy Aelurus
« on: June 21, 2012, 11:11:31 AM »
I have just uploaded a significant lecture on St Timothy Aelurus of Alexandria. This important figure is unfairly condemned by the Eastern Orthodox and too little known by the Oriental Orthodox. This 72 minute presentation seeks to describe the life and teaching of the successor to Pope Dioscorus using the full range of documentary materials which have been left to us. These include some of his theological works, his letters and references in historical texts.

His importance is especially found in his position as a church leader between the periods of St Cyril and Dioscorus on the one hand, and St Severus on the other. He shows himself as eirenic, and concerned to be reconciled with all those who genuinely abandoned error, and also a man of great principle who would rather face 18 years of exile than abandon the faith he had been taught. He had been ordained a priest by St Cyril himself.

It can be downloaded from the link below.

How?
Question a friend, perhaps he did not do it; but if he did anything so that he may do it no more.
A hasty quarrel kindles fire,
and urgent strife sheds blood.
If you blow on a spark, it will glow;
if you spit on it, it will be put out;
                           and both come out of your mouth

We condemn everyone who rejects Chalcedon and then proceeds to instigate entrenched opposition. The "fairness" aspect is always debatable. After all, the Church technically has not been "fair" since the first ecumenical council when unanimity was thrown out for the sake of expediency. Oppose the fourth council and reap the consequences of the first three. It gets better in the fifth, when not even the dead are safe.

If you spend long enough on this forum, you'll come away with all sorts of weird, untrue ideas of Orthodox Christianity.

I would suggest most persons in general avoid any question beginning with why.

Let's save a deeper discussion of this issue for the private forum.  Thanks.  :)

Since none of my critics have listened to my podcast I don't see how they are able to offer any comments on it at all?
