Why isn't the crown of thorns depicted on the crucifixion iconography?



But on the Christ of Passion he wears a crown of thorns?

I've always seen in western art/icons that Christ is crucified but the crown remains. I've yet to see an Orthodox icon with it on. Is there some sort of theological meaning on its removal?
