That depends on whether or not you think grave bodily harm will come to you if you don't, in which case you probably shouldn't wear your magical amulet at all.

I take it off during all those activities to be honest.

But is there some sort of mystical thing I'm missing here?

Basically.

Though I've always seen this as an RC sentiment (?). Or maybe I'm hypocrite because I do have a
little wooden cross in the bag I take to work with me everyday... Meh.

in my church, i think about 90% of people never take it off.
(except if they have / work with a magnetic resonance body scan - here u have to take off all metal or u stick to the machine!)
some of the ladies take it off to have different colour coded ones for every outfit, but they did not do that 'in the old days'.
mine stays on, but it wasn't always like that.
nothing bad happens if u take it off, it's just nice to always have it there!

Take it off during those moments; common sense. As Jesus said when referring to the Sabbath, man was not made for these rules and traditions but these rules and traditions were made for man.

take it off if you want to, or leave it on if you want to. I think it would be better to wear it more often than not.

This is why we should be allowed to have tattoos. A tattoo of an Orthodox Cross would be a lot easier to have on at all times than a Cross hanging from your neck.

Yes, but you're forgetting Macariosophorius's Law:

If the Old Testament Jews had a taboo, at some point in history a superstitious grandma has told her Christian grandchildren it applies to them. Normal judaizing points include:

Forbidding pork.
Banning tattoos.
Banning menstural women from church.
Forbidding the trimming of facial hair.
Compulsory circumcision.
Miscellaneous purification rites for women.

Tares and the Wheat, you know how the story goes.

Why?  A watch band can easily cover up the majority of it.

Talk about limiting one's job prospects.

It used to be that only service men or ne'er-do-wells got tattoos.  That still holds true today, but they're becoming increasingly popular and mainstream.  At any rate, if it's a small cross and not one of those gaudy West Coast Chopper gothic looking crosses, then most employers will gladly over look it on grounds of religious discrimination.

Clearly St. Aaron must have been a lizard-man, which proves that all the Church hierarchy are lizard-men, and that the Church has been infected with demonic-lizards, which must mean Orthodoxy is evil and corrupt and in league with the Masons!

I take my ring off all the time.  Especially when I'm cooking or kneading dough.  I'd prefer to never wear it actually.  I hate jewelry.  Also the banya - wearing any metal in there is a painful experience that you probably won't do twice.

Jewelry is a good way to protect your money. You exchange your cash for expensive jewelry and wear it at all times so that you do not have to worry about it being stolen or hustled from you by the bank and when you need quick cash, you simply just sell the jewelry to the nearest pawn shop and get your money back.

It is an American trend; mostly popular among minority groups. Due to not trusting the banks, being worried about the police tracing 'dirty' money or getting their money stolen since they live in a bad area, many people in impoverished areas have been doing precisely this; they exchange their money for jewelry such as necklaces, watches--even golden teeth--so that their currency is with them at all times and can easily be traded in for cash at the pawn shop when they need money.

I'm with you about the jewelry thing. Hate it.

And to amplify LBK's advice. I know married people who remove their rings when going out with the guys or girls without their spouse, when they travel for business, etc. Their motives can only be known by the behavior they engage in when they do it.

Some are Christian.

Some are Orthodox.

So you can remove it then as well.

How are tattoos forbidden? Don't OOs get a cross tattoo'd on their wrist?

What a horrible place to get a cross tattooed.
Talk about limiting one's job prospects.
I'm not wearing a long-sleeve shirt year round.

No, no...you don't understand. They're tiny. I think I am the only one in my church without one, but all that I've seen are tiny, such that if you wore a regular-sized watch the width of the band would be big enough to cover the tattoo completely. I've seen benign moles in the same spot that were bigger than most Coptic wrist tattoos.

As people at my church tell me, in modern times the tattoo has been adopted as a sly form of protest against Muslim domination of Egypt. The Copts used to be branded thusly by the Muslim authorities so as to be easily identifiable for purposes of jizya tax collection and other things (ahem...), so even after that system was dismantled the Copts decided that they should like to keep tattooing themselves as a declaration of faith (since public evangelism is, of course, verboten), and a visible witness and reminder of their history and the proud refusal to submit to Islam as the majority of their fellow countrymen had done over the centuries.

This is precisely why I won't be getting one myself, as I didn't go through any of that...but I sure admire those who did, and would have a hard time imaging that they should be condemned for what was first beyond their control, and later a witness to their Christian faith under extremely harsh conditions.

Do married folks take their wedding rings/bands off when showering or sleeping? There's your answer.

Then the answer is yes.

I'm fairly surprised that people wear rings at all. I found them to be more an annoyance than anything. Though showering and sleeping were the least of my concerns...  Cheesy

Who are they fooling other than themselves?  I have a very visible tan line where my ring is, so even without my wedding ring on it is pretty obvious that I wear a wedding ring.

Tan in a bottle.

Where there is a will, there is a way.

Then again, I do know from experience sometimes a ring attracts people looking for nothing other than a short term affair.

Also the banya - wearing any metal in there is a painful experience that you probably won't do twice.

I don't know if Russian sauna is anyhow different from the Finnish one but haven't had any problem while wearing my cross or earrings in sauna.
