Books on Orthros?
« on: May 28, 2012, 01:40:05 AM »
There have been translations of the Divine Liturgy and books with the Divine Liturgy with notes.  I know at least one book by Hugh Wybrew which looks at  the Divine Liturgy as developing through time.  Is there any such book on the Orthros, which may explain why it is put together the way it is, what each section of it is for, or historical development?

Archimandrite Robert Taft: Liturgy of the Hours East and West.  AFAIK the only English language introductory book available on this subject.   Forutunatey. it's excellent.
O Lord although I desired to blot out
with my tears the handwriting of my many sins
And for the rest of my life to please Thee
through sincere repentance
Yet doth the enemy lead me astray as he wareth
against my sould with his cunning

O Lord before I utterly perish do Thou save me!
