Quote
With the grace of God and the blessing of His Grace Bishop Serapion, St. Peter and St. Paul Coptic Orthodox Church will hold the Fifth Annual Orthodox Day of Praise on May 12, 2012.

This day is a gathering and a participation of different Orthodox churches with love which is the greatest truth for a praise day. This is a humble effort is to unite our Orthodox congregation using the language of heaven - hymns and praises.

In the past years we had the blessing of the Russian, Syrian, Serbian, Armenian, Antiochian, Syriac, Ukrainian, and Ethiopian churches’ participation.

I am afraid I read this as " Pan-Orthodox Day in Praise of Los Angeles, on May 12". LA does need some hugs and moral support. I am about two hours away from this. What is the parking like?

I don't think I've been to St. Peter and St. Paul Church before.  You may want to contact them and ask about directions and parking:

There is a phone number on the bottom of the flyer advertising it:

Greetings in that Divine and Most Precious Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

My parish is sending a choir to this function and I'm hoping to be able to join them if I can get my calendar to let go the hostages in our negotiations Wink

I haven't seen LA love each other since the Laker parade when I saw for the first time in my life 100,000 Angelinos in one place with not a single gang fight, it was pure Magic.   In this regard, pan-Orthodox fellowship is a must, its good for folks to realize that Orthodox is beyond the scope of our individual parishes.

stay blessed,

If this is concelebration of the Eucharist, why isn't this receiving more attention?

Is this day to feature EO/OO concelebration?

Are EO's and OO's allowed to co-celebrate?

Here is a Google search. It's listed by the sites of some Coptic and Antiochian churches in the area. There's nothing about the plans for it in the news.

I haven't gone to any of the previous events, and all I know about this one is what's in the article and ad.

I would think that a concelebration by EO and OO clergy would be too controversial for the event.  It's probably an OO liturgy with the EO's as special guests who are just present.  The singing afterward may involve everyone together, but that would not be controversial.

Greetings in that Divine and Most Precious Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

I don't believe there is any Liturgy celebrations.  The Day of Praise is a kind of conference, or in good ol Baptist nomenclature, a revival.  Different churches are sending choirs to sing hymns in their own languages and melodies, so we can share our faith through simple and joyful fellowship.  No polemics, no politics, just praises, hence the "day of praise."  I'm not even sure if there are any sermons or speakers.  Either way, it should be a delight to have such pan-Oriental Orthodox fellowship with a few visiting EO.

The flyer says that there will be Divine Liturgy that day. I'm not sure how that's going to work out but there will be DL.

While I have not attended in the past, what I do know is that there is no joint liturgical celebration. The liturgy will be a celebration of the Coptic liturgy and if non OO attend, they would be simply observing.  The event is mostly presentations of various ecclesiastical choirs of the various Orthodox traditions and some fellowship.

Thank you Father, that is what I meant.  The liturgy is for the parish, not necessarily the conference Smiley
