EXTERMINATE!

« Reply #45 on: April 15, 2012, 09:02:54 PM »

To Quote OZGeroge:
"Christ is risen! Nothing else matters."

If this was directed at me, I'm just being inquisitive, not trying to imply that there is anything wrong with the Malankara practice.

Christos anesti!
Not directed at you at all. I just love the quote. Smiley
It's actually a paraphrase of Jaroslav Pelikan, a Christian historian who joined the Orthodox Church late in his life. "If Christ is risen, nothing else matters. And if Christ is not risen--nothing else matters."

Ah. I guess I'm just paranoid.

The Malankara Orthodox follow the Gregorian paschalion?
All Christians in India are on the Gregorian Calendar. I'm not exactly sure but I believe it happened during the Goan Inquisition and we were too lazy to switch back to the old calendar afterwards.

Interesting. I was under the impression that all the OO follow the Julian paschalion.
I don't think we're the only ones. I think I remember reading somewhere on the board that the Armenians also switched to the Gregorian somewhere around the 1900s

All Christians in India are on the Gregorian Calendar. I'm not exactly sure but I believe it happened during the Goan Inquisition and we were too lazy to switch back to the old calendar afterwards.
Never mind. After doing some research apparently we only switched calendars in 1953, a lot later than I previously thought.
