AFR mentioned an icon making company called "Legacy Icons" and so I had a look at their website...

from http://www.legacyicons.com/pages/about

Quote
For over 20 years, our team has painstakingly developed an exclusive system for fine art reproduction using the finest acid-free papers, exquisite pigments, rich inks, and protective sealants. Using this combination, we are able to produce unprecedented colors with a precise and delicate balance of tones and color saturations.

And to be honest I don't get it. Why would I buy from these guys. If they understand and produce icons as fine art then I can do that at home with my inkjet printer. Of even better on A3 size (11.7 × 16.5 for you americans) from the office color laser printer.

They seem sincere but maybe confused....?!?

You like your icons to be grimy and blurry?  Grin

Yes, yes, youth is wasted on the young. And so is accumulated experience wasted on the old, the positives of modernism wasted on moderns, the beauty of Christianity wasted on Christians, the utility of scholarship wasted on scholars, and on and on.

Actually I do. Many icons have been through a lot, some are show signs of burns, other vandalism and so on. It is part of our history. The guys in the video were photoshopping a smudge. For some reason it felt wrong.

I went to Greece a while back and visited one of their museums full of icons. Most if not all were hundreds of years old. It is a reminder that our faith is not new but ancient.

Just watched the videos and they look....ok.
The price is right 30-45 bucks for a 8x10.
I think their prob is the icons come out too vivid, the colors, and i thnk too shiny. makes them look fake.
if you dont want to do it yourself (printing on printer at home and then mounting them. not as eazy as it sounds)then its worth the $$.
unless yo want to go up to a min of 400++ or so for a real icon.

There's something for everyone, if you look around enough. Lately I've been thinking the local church or cathedral would be a good place to go for icons. If they have a shop, they should have some.
