The last week has been really hard.
Our 5 week old son is currently in the hospital on a ventilator due to respiratory failure from RSV. He was rushed by ambulance from a doctor appointment on Tuesday. I was up all night the night before with horrible flu symptoms. Between his illness and mine I just about lost all my milk. At this same time my parents decided to start sending up passive aggressive messages. Then our 2 year old started vomiting Thursday night and tonight the oldest three started getting sick as well.
I started pumping as soon as he was admitted. One of the nurses messed up all my pumping efforts over the last few days. They have been overfilling his feeds and throwing away the excess milk. Instead of filling it with the 2.5 oz they would just dump in whatever amount they had in the bottles which could have been as much as FOUR TO FIVE OUNCES and then tossing what was left. Now they only have 8 oz or so of milk. The lactation consultant wants me to get a prescription to increase supply. Of course ***I can't get a prescription until Monday*** because my primary doctor has to give me it. Even then, the meds take days to work. I am REALLY frustrated now.
Best case scenario I have to pump and they immediately feed it to him via NG. But I hope we don't have to do that since I have to go back and forth from home/hospital a great deal still.
I am home right now thru 2-3 am. I might have to come back home tomorrow morning so my husband can go to work since the older kids are sick. Then back to the hospital when he comes home from work and so on and so forth until the kids are all well or Taz is released. This means I HAVE TO have excess milk in the fridge/freezer at the hospital since I will be away for 10-12 hours at a time.
Please pray for the health of our family. My husband has exhausted his sick leave and can't stay with the kids. This leaves me in a situation where I have to be home when he isn't and in the hospital when it is. I don't know if I will be able to sleep at all as long as we have to do that. Sleep deprivation won't help my milk issue either.
I know many people are squeamish about human lactation. And I hesitate to even bring it up. But the reality is that my son literally can't have anything but my milk due to severe food allergies. So if I can't pump enough, he can't get enough. Formula isn't an option as it will only make him more ill.

Thank you for the prayers. He was released this morning. He isn't fully recovered but he is well enough to come home. Now the hope/goal is continued recovery and hopefully limited/no permanent lung damage.
