Using the least squares regression model, I have put together some predictions based on past evidence of OC.net activity as to this month's estimated totals...
R2=+úGëÃÂÂ[yi-f(xi, a1,a2,...an)]2
then f(a,b)= a + bx Date New Top New Posts New Users Most On Total Hits --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oct-04 171 2370 35 29 103142
Lets see if they come true?

I predict that if the NHL ends its lockout, I will get cable TV again for a few months.

There could be others, but it is not f(a,b)=a+bx. a and b are just constants. it should be f(x)=a+bx What is your calculated R^2?

No, you're supposed to have some sort of eyes glazing over/deer-in-headlights emoticon instead. Hey, Bobby started it.

I used to f(a,b)= a+ bx to minimze R^2
So... R^2(a,b) = n Sigma i=1 [yi-(a+bxi)]2
Then I defined the sum of squares, and got the correlation coefficient from that, then found the line of best fit.

Now where were we? Oh yeah - the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn’t have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

My predictions were pretty close! I guess statistics actually does work :moan:
My estimates using least squares method: Oct-04 171 2370 35 29 103142
Actual: October 2004 155 2199 40 22 105813
All in all, not bad!
