The Reason Rally is an event sponsored by many of the country’s largest and most influential secular organizations. It will be free to attend and will take place in Washington, D.C. on March 24th, 2012 from 10:00AM – 6:00PM at the National Mall. There will be music, comedy, speakers, and so much more. We hope you can join us!

I wonder if churches are allowed to help sponsor the Reason Rally? John 1:1, "En arche en ho logos".

Why would churches want to co-sponsor an atheist event?

It's a "secular" event, which is a bit different than "atheist". If a group of people are valorizing "reason", then surely the churches that acknowledge the Logos should see some common ground.

Why should the Randroids be allowed to co-opt a monopoly on "reason"?

Vatican astronomer, Brother Guy Consolmagno:

Quote
Br. Consolmagno said that he believes in God, “not because he is at the end of some logical chain of calculations” but because he “experienced what physics and logic can show me but cannot explain: beauty and reason and love.”

The primary difference between him and atheistic scientist Stephen Hawking is that he recognizes that God is not another part of the universe that explains the inexplicable, but rather “Logos” and  “Reason itself.”

He spoke of the faith needed to embrace Christianity and said that although other world religions and philosophies can give us a rational view of the universe, “only the Gospel could tell us that Reason itself became flesh and dwelt among us” in the form of Jesus Christ.

Reason is not our highest faculty. Equating the Logos with "reason" is problematic from an Orthodox standpoint.

Except that obviously 'reason' in this sense is an agnostic/atheist term for themselves.  Come on, already.

Enough with this 'common ground' b.s.

Well, if this is a reason rally, the atheists and Dawkinites will all have to be absent.

Given the Vatican's embrace of Intellectualism

all you Thomists should take their place.

Atheism is a belief.
