Quote
Punks tried to give a concert at the altar of the chief cathedral in Russia

Moscow, February 21, Interfax - Feminist punk-group Pussy Riot sang one of its songs at the entrance to the altar of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow.

Four girls participated in the action, they sang a blasphemous song. They were detained by security, bloggers write on Tuesday.
Here is the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCasuaAczKY

They sing:

"Oh, Theotokos, drive Putin away!"  ('Bogoroditsa Poutinah pruganee')
...
The Church praises corrupt Fuhrers,
Its icon-bearing processions consist of black limos,
A preacher goes to your school
Go and bring your wherewithal!
...
Holy s***t! Kirill Gundyaev [Patriarch] trusts in Putin, he'd better trust in God!"

Truth to say, a very talanted perfermance. It reveals how the Church has compromised itself there is in the Russian society.
Unfortunately a good number  of people hates the Church and it is the fualt of the Russian Orthodox Church. All the same how it had been 100 years ago.

Yup.  The ROC-MP conducts itself in a disgusting manner and is the church of crooks and thieves.  But people refuse to believe the obvious.

I don't see what's blasphemous about the song itself, at least the lyrics you posted; inappropriate, venue-wise, definitely, but not blasphemous.  It clearly is calling on the Theotokos to oust what the writer believes is a bad politician (cf Ps 146:3) and lambasts clerics who are in bed with said politicians and who do not practice what they preach (cf Mat. 23:3).

I would say, definately inappropriate. I have nothing against criticizing Putin or bad church governance but I think they should do it in another way.

Unless they are trying to introduce a new form of head covering for women in church?

Is that one really beautiful infamous head-Pussy Riot grrrl ( I guess the main one jailed ?) still in jail? .. I hope her jail-time turns out to be a (spiritual)blessing for her.And if shes one of the members who proffesses to be an Orthodox Christian I hope she knows or realizes that Pussy Riots' exposing of the Russian Orthodox Churchs' corruption (seems to me) has reinforced in the minds of alot of "p.c." punx' that all christianity is bullcrap ..and of course that counter-culture tends to blasphemously throw the baby out with the bathwater(Jesus Christ)...I think it is a really good idea to pray for the Pussy Riot members that with all this they are spiritually blessed - because if they are or become true Orthodox Christians - they could truly be great hinders in the Enemys' agenda to convince counter-culture people that Jesus and Christianity are the bad guys.("P.C." folks want to have an earthly utopia based on their own ideas of morality wich includes alot of sodomy and fetal homocide[that somehow relates to this i think])...

Sorry for posting 3 times in a row I tried to delete this one but cant see how/where to do it(please tell me)...Anyway ill use this to add:

I imagine - perhaps especially for any of the members who are or have ever been prayerful - that this incident very much could - if its not already an act inspired by God(blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness[?justice?]) - seriously turn out to be a HUGE blessing for alot of people - including the members of Pussy Riot...How many Orthodox Christians are praying for them? ... I was recently banned from an anarchopunk forum for speaking in a very cut-throat fashion my beleifs and this subject (Pussy Riot,Orthodox Christianity, etc.) came up.I really do see how profound it would be for Pussy Riot to speak or act for Christ's sake.Im gonna light a candle for them Sunday.

Greetings in that Divine and Most Precious Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

I agree.  I cut my teeth on crust, anarcho, and gutter punk.  This kind of music is fiercely antagonistic to religion, however none of the vitriol I am often familiar with was present in that youtube clip..

stay blessed,

I know very little Russian and you are correct, but most songs are better in whatever language they're originally written in.

Indeed, but I didn't want to post something in furrin language since that would have earned me a green dot due to it being the post most egregiously violating the forum rules in recent days.

tsk tsk.  You know as well as I do that all you would have to do is put in a disclaimer that it's in Russian (or language of your choice) and an explanation of what the link is to.

Also, bordering on questioning a moderator? bad form.   Cool police

"I thank you Lord for Vladimir."

Were these singers paid to see these songs or do Russians generally have these perceptions?
