Voices from Russia
« on: February 23, 2012, 02:22:31 PM »
What is up with this blog, Voices from Russia?  And what is up with the author, Barbara, of many of the posts slandering OCA and its clergy?  It almost seems like it cant be serious.  Has anyone seen this blog before?

Yes, we know it. No, it's not serious but sometimes funny.

Do yourself a favor and avoid this blog like the plague and pray for the blogger.

That's all I'm going to say about that piece of internet trash (the blog, not the author, mind you!  :police:).

It's kind of funny, though.  Is that a bad thing?

It is kind of like Playboy - I did not subscribe to read the articles.  There are some good photo essays occasionally.
I would be happy to agree with you, but then both of us would be wrong.

I do not think that the owner of the site intends it to be viewed as humor or satire. I think she is quite serious.

Probably one of those LARpers who looks down on the western diaspora and gives flack to anyone who is not Greek or Russian.
...Or it's just possible he's a mouthy young man on an internet forum.

Concerning Voices of Russia, I think you should stay away.
However, she have a nice site with russian/orthodox art which is actually pretty good.

She is not a she.  Or at least she wasn't originally a she.

Yes, pray for the owner of the site.

Well, that would certainly explain a few things . . . if true.

For us 'older' crowd, I think that a LARper is about the same as a 'wannabe' or a 'poseur.' Is that correct?

I would say it has a bit more of an extreme connotation than those two terms imply, but yes.

And this is so different from grown men *getting paid the GDP of a small country* to run around chasing after balls on a field.

Or sitting on one's posterior watching said grown men running around after a ball all weekend.

Six of one, half dozen of the other.

While i've never LARPed and never will and do generally find LARPers amusing, what they do in their spare time to unwind and spend time with friends and family is their own business.

Where I'm from dressing in camo and taking out the mossberg and harvesting food is usually what men do on the weekends.  In warmer months this usually consists of fishing.  Intermittent with working on machines and mowing the lawn.

Amen. I went fishing for the first time this year yesterday....utter failure. The 5 months I can't fish are awful for me.

What?  You can fish year-round.  We used to skip class in winter sometimes and spend all afternoon fishing in winter at the local world-class trout streams that are abundant near my alma mater university.
I used to fish year round and almost every day.  Turn mobile phone off and voila, you have a relaxing fishing time, especially in colder periods, no one there to bother you except for maybe a deer.

Hard to do here. The weather changes so much that its hard to predict one day to the next. Example: We got 9 inches of snow and the next day it was 72, then 35, then 68, 54, and today it is 56 already. its like this all winter. So most locals just wait till end of Feb to start up again and we go straight through till November.
