Booo! There are many legitimate reasons to grow a big beard- a career as a lumberjack, sheer laziness and desire not to shave, being a member of a Southern Rock band, a desire to provide safe haven for nestless birds, and so on. A big beard does not necessarily mean hyperdoxy, unless said beard was grown in direct response to a desire to convert to Orthodoxy. How 'bout this modification: "Reads Hyperdox Herman to know what to avoid Still buys 500 knot prayer rope the day he's made a catechumen."

Why would he nuke the Vatican? The relics of St. Peter are there. It is more likely that Hyperdox Herman would move into the Vatican and declare himself the Orthodox Patriarch of Rome

Now that we've reached 1500 posts about Hyperdox Herman, perhaps that could inspire a new meme? We could call him "1500 Phillip".

We've already gone over this. I know. I just think this thread is getting a little bit old. I worry about sincere converts who are honestly endeavoring to live out their Faith to the fullest. If they see this thread they might feel mocked and humiliated. Rather than tempering their zeal, they may throw their prayer rope in the trash and return to a former life of sinful indulgence. I don't think any of us would want that to happen to somebody. There are many ways to be "holier than thou," and I think this thread is one of them. Just my opinion. Selam

Catechumen Cuthbert:
Does one need to confess
before receiving the sacrament of souvlaki?
So this is kind of funny. I got a text this morning from a friend of mine in Indiana: "Is this you?" said the text and it had a link. I followed the link and bam. Yep. The catechumen in the "Catechuman Cuthbert" meme is me. I'm not kidding. That is the priest who led me through the process of becoming Orthodox. A wonderful priest. But that is me. I am Catechumen Cuthbert and I just found out this morning. Funny...and bizarre.
