Uzbek repression spans Baptists to Muslims
« on: February 20, 2012, 10:49:11 AM »
Quote
WASHINGTON (BP) -- When it comes to dealing out religious persecution, officials in Uzbekistan say they don't choose favorites.

"We treat everybody equally, both Christians and Muslims," a local official named Nurmina Askarova told Forum 18, a Norway-based religious freedom monitor. In addition to terminating a Baptist church service, authorities also closed a nearby mosque, Askarova said.
....
According to Forum 18, all religious activity not registered with the state, including meetings in private homes, is a criminal offense. Uzbekistan's Muslim majority is held under state domination and religious minorities are routinely targeted for persecution.
....
Ten officials broke up a meeting of an unregistered Korean Baptist congregation on Sunday, Feb. 5, confiscating sound equipment, books, cassette tapes and DVDs.
....
Askarova defended the raid, saying the Baptists were instructed to attend a registered church, but she would not say which church. In the past, according to Forum 18, Baptists were instructed to attend a Russian Orthodox Church.

How reliable is the Baptist Press?  Anyone can make up such a story ESPECIALLY when connected to a pray organization therefore claiming to need that money to help the people in said oppressive country (translate pastor needs new cadillac).

These stories are more believable if the "church's" website has a link to a real press source.  Say "Washington (BP)" like this source does tells me they think they are as reliable and such as the Associated Press.

And the writer of this "news story" is a writer himself as it says so at the end of the so-called "news story."
