Soul Saturdays
« on: February 17, 2012, 10:06:39 PM »
So what is your custom in your church for Soul Saturdays?
If a church around here holds the liturgy and panachida (trisagion I think is what the non-slavics call it) on Saturday there is usually food afterward.
We don't use koliva and no one bakes prosphora for liturgy.

My dad's homevillage does not have it's Soul Saturday on Soul Saturday because there are several cemeteries within his homeparish and priests cannot visit all of them one day. It has the Soul Saturday two weeks before the actual Soul Saturday (New Calendarists ;))

So in the morning there are Matins and a Liturgy in the parish Church (that is in the village opposite). Then priests and the villages from the particular village go to the cemetery. A panikhida is celebrated in the middle of it. Then priests visit each of the tomb, have a short prayer there and sprinkle them with the holy water.
