Hosanna in the highest!

« on: February 13, 2012, 11:34:15 PM »

Hi guys, I haven't made a post in a while, but a topic has come to mind and I would like to get some opinions of the matter.

I am currently majoring in Clinical Therapy and I've been reflecting lately on the different approaches of psychology that seem to be the most dominant these days. My question is what school of psychology do you guys think can fit within an Orthodox point-of-view, if any?

I have found that I just can't buy Behaviorism, Cognitive Behaviorism, or the Psychodynamic approaches from a theological point of view and yet I also see Humanistic school attacked by Christians of all types.

Do you guys think there is actually an approach in psychology that isn't in conflict with Orthodoxy or is there an approach favored by Orthodox Christians?

Thanks.

Read Bread & Water, Wine & Oil by Fr. Meletios Weber, if you've not already.

That's not a school. Or for that matter even a book so far as I know.

Hey, so I'm in a pop-alt-punk-folk-prog band called "Affable Dregs" and we have a new album coming out, titled "Vicious Turnips Always Taste Most Delicious." We'd really appreciate your support!

I don't think that's his main area, though we do not doubt his competence in multiple fields...

I have found Fr. George Morelli to be very insightful on related matters; Cf. the article "Orthodoxy and the Science of Psychology"http://www.orthodoxytoday.org/articles6/MorelliOrthodoxPsychology.php which can serve as an introduction to his general perspective; if you find it interesting I recommend looking into other material by him.
