I was wondering if anyone knows of any contemporary Orthodox writers?I am interested in works of fiction;novels,short stories,etc.Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I don't know of any, but then again I didn't know Tom Hanks was Orthodox until a couple of weeks ago. laugh

Given the dearth of responses on this one, if there are any budding authors out there, this could be your niche!

(And, like Alexander, I'd be interested in reading any such works, if they exist.)

How 'bout the novels of Frank Schaeffer?  I haven't read them, and you have to be able to take satirical writing, but I've heard positive things.

Most Greek writers are by default Orthodox, although that may be in little more than form. However, that doesn't mean they write 'Orthodox fiction'. Most such fiction is a) geared towards children, and b) not very good, as it's essentially catechism with characters, rather than a solid literary work.

One author for whom Orthodoxy was a central theme and is likely to be found translated in English is Alexandros Papadiamantis. (He's also a favourite of mine, so I'm biased. Smiley)

Charles Dickens wasn't an Orthodox Christians but some say David Copperfield is recommendable for learning basic Orthodox piety.
