Memory Eternal!

Quote
(CNN) -- Etta James, whose assertive, earthy voice lit up such hits as "The Wallflower," "Something's Got a Hold on Me" and the wedding favorite "At Last," has died, according to her longtime friend and manager, Lupe De Leon. She was 73.

She died from complications from leukemia with her husband, Artis Mills, and her sons by her side, De Leon said.

She was diagnosed with leukemia in 2010, and also suffered from dementia and hepatitis C. James died at a hospital in Riverside, California. She would have turned 74 Wednesday.

" This is a tremendous loss for the family, her friends and fans around the world," De Leon said. "She was a true original who could sing it all -- her music defied category.

May her memory be eternal!

When I worked at Starbucks for what seemed like an eternity, "At Last" would often play over the sound system. I actually would sing to it, which is very unusual since I have a voice not unlike Gothmog's in LoTR.

So, whenever I hear that song I am reminded of Ms. James' wonderful voice contrasted with my experiences of life in Boston. Very bittersweet.

Greetings in that Divine and Most Precious Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

I LOVE me some blues y'all, and Etta James is simply TOO Blues!

Oh wait.. I think I start out like Etta James..   Jimi Hendrix

What a wonderful woman with a phenomenal legacy, God Bless Her Soul!

This thread reminds me of a Tupac song

Quote
Dear momma don't cry, your baby boy's doin good
Tell the homies I'm in heaven and they ain't got hoods
Seen a show with Marvin Gaye last night, it had me shook
Drippin peppermint Schnapps, with Jackie Wilson, and Sam Cooke
Then some lady named Billie Holiday
Sang sittin there kickin it with Malcolm, 'til the day came
Little LaTasha sho' grown
Tell the lady in the liquorstore that she's forgiven, so come home
Maybe in time you'll understand only God can save us
When Miles Davis cuttin lose with the band
Just think of all the people that you knew in the past
that passed on, they in heaven, found peace at last
Picture a place that they exist, together
There has to be a place better than this, in heaven
So right before I sleep, dear God, what I'm askin
Remember this face, save me a place, in thug's mansion

Now Etta James is up there with em Wink

Stay blessed,
