Does anyone know where I can find a small pocket size book of the Gospels...not the complete New Testament, just the 4 Gospels?
Thank you!

Alba House put out a slim volume of the Gospels some time ago. It's not quite pocket size, but it's good (I have it at home). You might try to look for it online or something. It's not one of the more conventional translations--it is one done by an individual--but it is the only one like it that I have been able to find.

That's a tough one Raouf! Maybe the Gideons? I know they have pocket sized NewTestament/Psalms. Maybe they also publish the 4 Gospels. Plus, they'll usually give them to you for free!

May I suggest: Good News Bible Gospels www.christianbits.co.uk/product.php?id=0564044539In the UK there's more of the GNB for sale in the US, so I unfortunately I wasn't able to find it in North America I think it's actually the best translation for the Gospels of Matthew and Luke

Have you tried the American Bible Society? They have any number of translations and, most likely, sizes.

I add: Remember that there are ordinary (i.e. Protestant) editons, and Catholic editions, of the same version. I'd go with a Catholic one. Also, check out: 9.2 x 7.5 x 1.5 inches: Five Gospels: www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/006063040X

An interesting article on the Good News Bible and it's Today's English Version: http://www.wayoflife.org/articles/tev.htmOf course I do not agree with most of this site, but the translation comparisons to the KJV are very revealing.
The Orthodox New Testament is now available in a pocket-sized version too.
Really? I can't tell what size the book is from that link, and the only one that I've found that's almost close to what I want is the Alba House Gospels that Mor mentioned. I'd much rather have the ONT, though. (It'd be better if it was just the Gospels, but, hey, ya takes what ya can gets.) -Philip.

I was pretty excited to see it too. Here is the info about this edition however:
The Orthodox New Testament, Leatherette This soft-cover, pocket edition contains the text of the Holy Gospels, Epistles and Revelation; but does not include the commentaries. With its 4 1/2x6 1/2" size, it is especially great for traveling. - (608 pages, 22 icons $30.00)

I don't recommend the GNB/GNT, not even in its Catholic edition. In this discussion-thread, the only translation I would actually recommend, of the ones I've mentioned so far, is the NAB'70. (I.e. not the (c)86 version!.) A more recent recommendable translation would be Contemporary English Version: ( The cheapest ones are on www.abebooks.com, starting from less than a dollar. Also some for sale on www.alibris.com. Use these words in the search: Contemporary English Version Testament Catholic www.amazon.com/gp/product/offer-listing/0840720475/qid=1119260105/sr=1-2 )

I just want to share something about the pocket sized Gospel of John you get from pocketpower.org, which was mentioned above. I ordered a few copies just to see what they were like. I thought it might be a good thing to give these away at our church's bookstore. However, when I received them today, I was dismayed to find that there was more than the Gospel of John between the covers of these booklets. Among other things, they contain advertisements for the Evangelical organization which runs the website, including an offer for a correspondence course. They also contain a few pages illustrating the Evangelical view of salvation. This includes an illustration showing that "good deeds," "morality." and "religion" are "the wrong way to God" and that they lead to sin and separate us from God. Now, I can understand these people saying that good deeds, etc. do not in themselves save us (We need Christ.) However, they are actually saying that they're wrong and lead to separation from God! Needless to say, I was very disappointed. I think the idea of giving away free gospel books is great, but when you add advertising and the other messages, it really ruins it!

I got my copy of the Pocket ONT a couple days ago. It's rather nice. Unfortunately, it's a little larger than pocket-size, but it's still very portable. I just wish that it had more icons in it.
Once I take a longer look at it, I'll get back and review it.
