For all those whose calendar begins the Dormition Fast today, a blessed fast to all! "Our All Holy Mother is the salvation of the whole world, she is the only mother for all Christians…She has much love for the human race, especially for sinners…Let us all run to the All Holy Mother in every circumstance to ask her, to have her as our aid."~ St. Anthimos of Chios

A protection and shelter, I have with you in my life, You, the Theotokos and the Virgin, Pilot me toward your port; For you are the cause, The cause of that which is good, Support of the faithful, The only all-praised One.

Feast Day of the Transfiguration of Christ Apolytikion, Tone Seven:
"When Thou wast transfigured on the mountain, O Christ our God, Thou didst show Thy glory to Thy disciples as they were able to receive it. Illuminate also for us sinners Thine everlasting Light, by the intercessions of the Mother of God, Giver of Light, glory to Thee."

"Put me not into the hands Of any human protection, O our Lady, Most Holy, But do now receive the prayers of your supplicant; Sorrow has taken me, And I am unable To withstand and bear the demons darts; Shelter I do not have, Nor a place to go, worthless that I am; Lady of humanity, The shelter of the faithful and their hope, Do not reject my prayers to you, Do the things that profit me."

Does anyone have a standard greeting the give during this period? I just a very well educated greek gentleman say to our local bishop "kalli dekapentavgusti"...or "good 15 days of august"...I thought it was a beautiful greeting. Does anyone else have something like this in their tradition?

"Kali Decapenavgusto," I haven't heard, though it makes sense too (similar to 40 Day Great Fast, "Kali Tesaracosti"), but because we are asking for her "help," I've heard "Voithia mas," "May we be helped," or "May she help us."
I'd like to see commentary or suggestions about a greeting for the "15 Days of August," too.

I've been hearing Greeks greeting each other with 'voithia sas' or similar phrases, so that supports what Basil said.

Excerpts from: "Service of the Small Supplications [Paraklesis] to the Most Holy Theotokos"
"Most Holy Theotokos, save us.
Assaults of the passions have shaken me, My soul to its limits Has been filled with much despair; Bring peace, O Maiden, in the calmness, Of your own Son and your God, all-blameless One."

I've been hearing Greeks greeting each other with 'voithia sas' or similar phrases, so that supports what Basil said.
"voithia" is the noun form of "help", not the verb. 'Voithia sas' literally means "Your help(n)" and is short for: "May God be your help".

The "Falling Asleep (also referred to as the Dormition) of the Most Holy Mother of God" is celebrated on August 15th on the Revised Julian Calendar. "Most Holy Theotokos, save us!"

In some parishes, particularly in Greece,
"THE PRAISES OF OUR MOST HOLY LADY THE THEOTOKOS AND EVER VIRGIN MARY,"
are chanted following Great Vespers for the Falling Asleep of the Theotokos. They are chanted in the tones of the "Lamentations" of the Great Saturday Orthros Service, conducted on Friday evening. A Tomb (Kovouklion) with the Icon of the Falling Asleep of the Theotokos is placed in the Tomb, or bier. The bier processes around the church, followed by clergy and the faithful, returning to the church.
Excerpt from the 1st Stasis:
"Thou was laid, O Pure One, in the tomb, who didst contain God in thy womb and didst conceive Him ineffably on Earth!"
Excerpt from the 2nd Stasis:
"Meet it is to magnify thee the God-receiver, the treasury of the virtues and of all the graces that come from God."
Excerpts from the 3rd Stasis:
"All generations offer a hymn to thy burial, O Virgin.
Thou didst undergo death, O Virgin, who didst conceive Him Who slew Hades."
