Personal Text? We can have personal text?

« on: January 02, 2012, 03:02:05 PM »

Pray for us my wife and I are getting ready to go sit down with our current Pastor and his wife this afternoon to let them know we're going to convert to Orthodoxy. It will be hard they're not just the the Pastor and his wife but we considered them friends. We'll also be leaving the church we've been in for 20 years and been very involved in. I will also be resigning my ministerial credential by letter to our regional superintendant.

edit: I hit enter by mistake before I was done with the subject.

Lord, have mercy. If it's not an inappropriate question, may I ask which confession you are leaving for the sake of Holy Orthodoxy?

Good luck.

may God guide your discussions. remember to keep them as close friends if at all possible and to forgive them for any hurtful things they may say or do in ignorance.
i know it's hard.

Open Bible Churches, it's technically Pentecostal I believe, but in practice, at least where we are, I would describe it as neo-Charismatic.

Thank you all for your prayers, it went as well as perhaps could be hoped, given that it was a total surprise to our Pastor and his wife that this is what we are doing. (I don't know I could have said something earlier I suppose, but I didn't want other people to pull us too hard in one way or the other while we were deciding, hence I never said anything either to our friends in our former church or to Protestant or Orthodox family members until we had made our decision.) We parted with hugs and they gave me a Pepsi.  Grin

Anyway next step is tonight to write the Priest where we have been inquiring and inform him that we have formally left our previous, church and inquire about becoming catachumen. Then also tonight I will write a letter to our previous denomination resigning my ministerial credential. Then if all goes as planned Friday we will meet with the board of the previous church to speak with them in preparation to coming back for one Sunday to say goodbye to the church.

Could still use prayer for the rest of that. For me this was the big step, but for my wife the big part will be the emotions of saying goodbye to everyone. Our previous church was small and everyone is a friend, and feels like family, we will miss them.

One more question, if I may, Maximum Bob.  Why was the meeting not between you, your wife and your pastor?  Why was his wife included?  Is she part of the clergy of that  particular church?  I don't know, hence why I ask.

Yes basically, we viewed them as a Pastorial team and also both as good friends.

if u reassure them u will still be friends, i think it will help.
u can still go to the social events and also invite people from there to social events at yr new church once you are settled enough to do that (for me this 'settling' usually takes 2 weeks, as i get used to new places quickly, but u will probably need a lot longer), so make it like a 'till we meet again' rather than a permanent farewell.
may God give u peace

May the Lord grant you and your wife strength.

Regarding the above, remember, you don't have to cut ties with these people; they can still be your friends. I know it will be difficult not seeing them on a regular basis, as you do now, but please don't feel like this has to be "goodbye." It's more like "until we meet again."

Another update: We met with the board tonight, there was some disagreement (tension?), but that's to be expected I suppose. Still under everything was love and caring. We parted with hugs and prayer.

Tomorrow we meet with our Priest to talk about being catachumen. Then Sunday we return to our former church one more time to say goodbye to the congregation.

After that it's just whatever the denomination has to say about me reigning my ministerial credential (did that by letter, so they may not have gotten it yet, or only just gotten it.) That part still makes me nervous for some reason. Keep us in prayer if you would.
