This is really an interesting podcast by Fr. Hopko on vestments.

This really helped me to understand the purpose of the vestments. 2 things I drew from it which are essential: the basic white vestment that all priests should wear, and the epitrachelion or stole around the shoulders.

Anyways, i found it to be a very interesting and practical approach:
