Looks like my next birhday is going to be fun according to what I'm seeing/reading the "The Hobbit" should be released next Dec. 14th the day before my birthday. Looks like there will be a lot of returning actors and some interesting new ones. Also looks like the move my go a bit beyond just the book perhaps into some of the others things that would have been happening at the time and told elsewhere but not in the book. Anyone else see the trailer? What did you think?

No. I still haven't seen the other three movies, would you believe it? And Tolkien is one of my favorite authors. I've got to update my Netflix.

Yeah, I saw it. One of my friends posted a link to it on Facebook and I did likewise. I saw it mentioned that they are taking a few things out of the appendix and adding that to the movie to add to the story line. I've noticed that we actually get to see Gandalf when he is away from the group and IIRC we only got a brief explanation as to why he was absent in the book. (I need to read all of those books again...)
I even checked IMDb to see what news there was and saw where some people wanted a Silmarillion movie made... as interesting as I think that would be I don't think that a movie could me made based off the whole book.
Now I am having a nostalgia attack and want to see the movies and read the books again, guess I just have to wait for my leave...

I've seen it.. more than once (well I had to show the family too after all ) Martin Freeman looks very good as a Hobbit, I think and the dwarves are all grand. Has anyone seen some of the still photos? WETA workshops are at it again with wonderful armor and swords and more. The dwarven singing is very good too, I think. I'm looking forward to more of Howard Shore's music And I liked the shot of Gandalf near the end with his staff striking. I know what does with that.. "Dawn take you all and be stone to you!" A year ....

There were many who were, Michal, and others who didn't like it that Tom Bombadil was not included in the movies. There were echoes or suggestions or references to both. But movies and their story telling is a different media than books. Some things that work well in one, don't in the other. Here's a link to a 13 minute special about the making that has some interesting things such as one of the Eagles, a bit of insight into Radagast the Brown and some on the three trolls Tom, Bert and William http://www.theonering.net/torwp/2012/12/06/66732-the-hobbit-an-unexpected-journey-13-minute-tv-special/

Stephen Colbert is in the middle of Hobbit Week, celebrating the forthcoming release of the movie The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Last night, he took on "the wizards at Denny's" who have launched a hobbit-themed menu that is "a delicious tribute to a beloved children's book, though the breakfast has a much darker ending." As Colbert says, "Yes, eat like a hobbit because at Denny's you can't eat like a human."

One of the men of Laketown, mayhaps?
