Latest attempt to unite UOC-KP and UAOC collapses
« on: December 14, 2011, 03:28:29 PM »
Here's the English article on RISU:

http://risu.org.ua/en/index/all_news/confessional/orthodox_relations/45938/

Quote
The unification process between the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate and Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church, which began last autumn, failed. According to the Kyivan Patriarchate, the clergymen of UAOC are to blame for the failure of the dialogue. Representatives of the Kyivan Patriarchate particularly accuse Metropolitans Mefodii and Andrii, who laid down an unacceptable condition, the resignation of Patriarch Filaret.  On 13 December, in Kyiv, the bishops of UOC-KP at their synod passed an address stating their position in this regard. So reported the web site of  UOC-KP.

And the longer Ukrainian original:

Is this really news?
Question a friend, perhaps he did not do it; but if he did anything so that he may do it no more.
A hasty quarrel kindles fire,
and urgent strife sheds blood.
If you blow on a spark, it will glow;
if you spit on it, it will be put out;
                           and both come out of your mouth

Unacceptable condition?

Why is it unacceptable?  One should always be willing to sacrifice self for the good of their neighbor.

The fact that P. Filaret refuses to resign just shows he's not worried about his flock, just himself.

Conquer evil men by your gentle kindness, and make zealous men wonder at your goodness. Put the lover of legality to shame by your compassion. With the afflicted be afflicted in mind. Love all men, but keep distant from all men.

Unfortunately yes, and so unity will come faster the sooner he leaves the scene.

I read the Ukrainian article via Google Translate (yeah, not perfect, but with a dash of common sense and background knowledge it can be enough to indicate what most an article means). It seems that UOC-KP also did something even more damaging: it called upon UAOC priests and communities to jump into the UOC-KP on their own.
