Historian Robert K. Massie, well known for his books on Peter the Great as well as the Romanovs, has released a new volume, about the life of Catherine the Great.

From the article:
Quote
After marrying Peter, and surviving the volatility of Empress Elizabeth, Catherine developed a deep intuition and wisdom. Unlike Peter, who maintained an admiration for all things German, Catherine tried to learn Russian and adopted the Russian Orthodox faith, becoming more disarming to her subjects than her hapless husband.

I haven't read this yet, but I think I will soon. I thought others here may be interested, since Massie has written about other Russian rulers.

A co-worker mentioned this book yesterday and said it was excellent.

O Lord although I desired to blot out
with my tears the handwriting of my many sins
And for the rest of my life to please Thee
through sincere repentance
Yet doth the enemy lead me astray as he wareth
against my sould with his cunning

O Lord before I utterly perish do Thou save me!

I've got "Nicholas and Alexandra" on order, but it's been a couple of weeks since it was supposed to have arrived here in town and I'm beginning to wonder if UPS didn't lose it or something.
