EDIT:  The above is what I've always heard in my Church, but when I look it up, it's Христос рождается, Christos  rozhdaetsya.

I wonder why this is.

I've actually never heard that in Russian.  They may say that, I just never heard it.

Ukrainians and the Russians I know usually give the greeting:  Christ is born!  Glorify Him! ...in their perspective languages.

In Ukrainian it is:  Христос Родився!  Славимо Його!  Christos Rodivsia!  Slavimo Yoho!  Christ is born!  (We) Glorify Him!

Some folks give the reply:  Славіте Його!  Slavite Yoho!  But, that makes it sound like the person giving the reply is telling the person that gave the greeting to Glorify Him! 
Joe:  Christ is born!
Sam: Joe, you should glorify Him!
