How many Western Rites?
« on: November 14, 2011, 06:26:40 PM »
Does anyone know how many western rites are being used by Orthodox Christians, and where they come from? I know some are based on Anglican/Episcopal rites, and there's a Gregorian Rite parish here in town, but other than that, I don't know any details.

Thanks!

In Christ.

There are three, St. Gregory, St. Tikhon (Anglican) and St. Germain (Gallican) used by canonical Orthodox.  Sarum is used by some non-canonical Orthodox, as is the Ambrosian rite.
Question a friend, perhaps he did not do it; but if he did anything so that he may do it no more.
A hasty quarrel kindles fire,
and urgent strife sheds blood.
If you blow on a spark, it will glow;
if you spit on it, it will be put out;
                           and both come out of your mouth

I think that the Sarum rite is actually now in use with the incoming of formerly uncanonical priests into ROCOR.
