Scripture help
« on: November 11, 2011, 03:47:32 PM »
I just read todays gospel reading and I came to wonder about something.

31 The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will kill thee.

32 And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.

33 Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.

Why is Jesus calling himself a prophet in this verse?

Thank you  :)
Do not be cast down over the struggle - the Lord loves a brave warrior. The Lord loves the soul that is valiant.

Because Jesus is a prophet...and not just any prophet, but the seal.  This is one of His three offices - "Prophet, Priest, and King."

A prophet is one who speaks the word of God to others; Christ Himself is THE Word of God.

This might help:

Christ is the Prophet spoken of in Deut 18:18.
And FWIW, these are our Fathers too, you know.
