My mother would rather I were homeless...
« on: November 06, 2011, 07:03:54 AM »
...than attending an OC parish while living at home. She told me so.  :'(

Please pray that I will be able to cope with my parents' repeated attempts
to manipulate/control me and keep me from Orthodoxy. I have fought with
them, I have calmly spoken to them about how they hurt me, and I have
ignored them. Nothing is working. I can't stand it anymore. I hate living with
them, and I feel like I'm trapped.

Have you studied much about the life of St. Barbara? How much of the early women saints have you learned? You may find strength in their examples!

Question a friend, perhaps he did not do it; but if he did anything so that he may do it no more.
A hasty quarrel kindles fire,
and urgent strife sheds blood.
If you blow on a spark, it will glow;
if you spit on it, it will be put out;

Lord, have mercy.

May I suggest you look into your local chapter of Teen Challenge Adult Outreach? In my area they operate a live-in program open to all Christian denominations. They may be able to provide shelter in this storm you are going through.

I will light a candle for you today.

God sees your struggle and your sacrifice, and will not hesitate to bless you for the things you endure for His sake. Stay strong, honour them as much as you can without denying God. Who knows what benefits they might gain from an honourable witness to the faith?

Brandy,

Sorry I didn't see this earlier. You are and have been my prayers. Your poise and strength through this has been instructive and humbling to me.

Perhaps you don't want to hear that your painful struggle has been a help to another, if so I apologize. But your faith and patience and charity has been a fine example of what I dearly lack in much degree.

It is a heartbreaking situation. Again, I admire and am inspired by your example.

Lord have mercy!

Prayers for our sister, that the anger of her parents be lifted from them and that they see her decisions for what they are, a manifestation of God's Will for her, that she has freely chosen to accept and act on.

How sad, I pray that their ignorant fear be alleviated as  blessed St. Patrick noted in his confession of Christian daughters who struggled with their families:

42. And there was, besides, a most beautiful, blessed, native-born noble Irish [Scotta] woman of adult age whom I baptized; and a few days later she had reason to come to us to intimate that she had received a prophecy from a divine messenger [who] advised her that she should become a virgin of Christ and she would draw nearer to God. Thanks be to God, six days from then, opportunely and most eagerly, she took the course that all virgins of God take, not with their fathers’ consent but enduring the persecutions and deceitful hindrances of their parents. Notwithstanding that, their number increases, (we do not know the number of them that are so reborn) besides the widows, and those who practise self-denial. Those who are kept in slavery suffer the most. They endure terrors and constant threats, but the Lord has given grace to many of his handmaidens, for even though they are forbidden to do so, still they resolutely follow his example.

Lord, have mercy on you all.

+Hugs+ my sweet sister, I am sorry to hear this. know sometimes even within Orthodoxy people have faced such challenges, they have been told, that they are fanatics and involved too much in their faith so the solution has been to forbid them from going to church, and attend prayer services etc. The Lord has used such challenges to strengthen the faith of those facing it and also resuscitate and ignite the lukewarm faith of the family. may the Lord grant you the grace you need at this time. Lord have mercy!
To God be the Glory in all things! Amen!

Only pray for me, that God would give me both inward and outward strength, that I may not only speak, but truly will; and that I may not merely be called a Christian, but really be found to be one. St.Ignatius of Antioch.Epistle to the Romans.

Continuing to pray.  :angel:

Is there perhaps a neighbor or a friend who may let you stay with them for a while? Maybe that would help a little.

Don't give up.

Through the intercessions of St. Monica and St. Augustine, O Lord have mercy on us.  :angel:

It's very sad to see parents react like this to their child's decisions. Love conquers all, Virgil says. Let's hope that love wins out in this case.

As a young Christian, before I was Orthodox, I experienced a lot of negativity and ridicule from my family. I really don't think they had any idea how hurtful it was. I'm sure your parents love you and are trying to do what they think is best for you, but obviously they are making a huge mistake in how they're going about it. This is the cross that Our Lord has chosen to bless you with. Try to see it as an opportunity to strengthen your faith, practice unconditional love, and learn patience and humility. Easier said than done I know, but sometimes recognizing our trials as blessings from God can help us to endure them.

"Lord have mercy."
