Hello everyone!
« on: October 29, 2011, 12:52:46 AM »
Hello good folks at OrthodoxChristianity.net. I've been lurking on here for a week or so now, and I thought to make an account  ;D. I would like to know if Maronite Catholicism (and Eastern Catholicism) relates to Orthodoxy. I am currently non-denominational and I am interested in eastern/Oriental Christianity as well as Judaism and I'm happy to be a part of this community. Take care and G-d bless  :)

Welcome to the forum!

The Marionites are not Orthodox, they are part of the Roman papal communion. There are other churches that are called Eastern Catholic, but they are not Orthodox strictly speaking either.

The churches that are Orthodox are generally called Greek Orthodox, Russian Orthodox, etc.

you will find much more similarities between eastern catholics and eastern orthodox in worship and practice than you will between EO and RC (and possibly even between EC and RC).

Thanks for the answers everyone! This question came as a result of a joke between a myself and a Maronite friend. I joked with him saying if he was excommunicated where would he go, he said he'd become a Syriac Orthodox because it would be the closest thing. I then aksed him wouldn't Roman Catholicism be the closest thing.
