Archbishop Hanna of Sebastia has exhorted the people of Syria to remain strong in the face of the crisis gripping the country.

From the article:
Quote
"We and all the Palestinian people condemn the dangerous plot against Syria due to its pan-Arab positions and permanent defense of the Palestinian and Arab rights," the Archbishop said during a visit to the occupied Syrian Golan on Wednesday heading a delegation of Orthodox establishments in Jerusalem.
He will come again with glory to judge the living and the dead. His kingdom will have no end.

What is the 'dangerous plot' against Syria?

Does he mean the fact that the Syrian people are demanding an end to dictatorship?

That is working so well in Egypt, Father.

No.  The call for toppling Asad from outside Syria, for their own motives.
Question a friend, perhaps he did not do it; but if he did anything so that he may do it no more.

Maybe this whole thread should go to the politics forum?
Anyway, not all Syrian people are demanding an end to dictatorship. Actually, many Syrian Christians prefer this secular dictatorship to a democratically elected government of the Muslim Brotherhood.

one man, one vote, one election.  Islam is the solution.

"Archbishop Hanna of Sebastia..."

Minor point, but this is Archbishop Theodosius making the statement - prior to his consecration he was Fr. Atallah, and Hanna is his surname (or patronymic or both - I'm not sure how these things work in Palestine).

Their "dictator" is supposedly notoriously generous in his alms to the poor and very friendly with the Christian population. As far as I know all of the Orthodox Christians with ties to Syria support him.

Too true. An Islamic party came out strongest in Tunisia's recent election, and Tunisians are fairly moderate by all accounts.

I agree. Speaking to different Orthodox Syrians over the years they prefer secular Baathist rule, which i believe was originally started by Orthodox Arab Christians.

The ideological father of Baathism was Michel Aflaq, an Orthodox Christian. Actually, Saddam Hussein claimed he converted to Islam on his deathbed, which was denied by his family.

There are persistent rumors about them having received enormous financial support from Qatar.
