CLOTHES! including underwear and socks. Or other practical items like a bath towel (or a set of a bath towel and a couple of smaller ones). I've never, ever, heard any mom say "I have too many towels or everyday kid clothes".

Nah, boring. ^Stock in Apple.
I hate Apple products. I think I'll buy a piece of clothing and one of that popular educational toys that beep, flash and make parents insane.

Yes, books - There are some lovely sturdy books for the little ones. It's never too early to actively encourage the creation of a bibliophile!

Let other people buy the flashy annoying toys. You can get some high-quality children's books that will nourish her through all her childhood.

I would go with a good children's book...and an overstuffed, fuzzy, squeezable, huggable animal!

What can you buy for a one-year-old girl?
Depends on how well you like her parents. Books and squeezable, huggable stuffed animals are good if you like them and wish to stay in contact with them. If you don't like them, drums and/or harmonicas are great presents, but I can see you might already be headed in that direction...

There's a really cute bath towel thing that I saw recently - it's a little like a child-sized cloak but made of toweling, with animal ears. No, really, it's a lot cuter than it sounds!

You realize that MK lives in Poland right? If Poland is anything like serbia (and I would be willing to venture it is), that little number is not going to exist except MAYBE in Warsaw....and that's a big maybe.
