Leaders of military and Orthodox meet in Lebanon, to discuss electoral law

On Thursday, a representative of the Lebanese Forces met with an Orthodox organization. The topic was electoral law.

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea met on Thursday with a delegation of the Lebanese Orthodox Gathering to discuss the Orthodox proposal on the electoral law.

“The discussion with Geagea was [detailed], and he said that the Orthodox proposal on the electoral law is worthy of serious [discussion],” Saleem Habib, the delegation’s spokesperson, said following the meeting.

"Lebanese Forces" isn't the Lebanese military.... it's a right-wing, predominately Maronite political party and former militia. They're the main Christian party in the "March 14" coalition that's in opposition in the Lebanese parliament at the moment.

That said, this proposal being put forward by certain Orthodox politicians in Lebanon that people be only allowed to vote for members of their own sect in parliamentary elections, is causing a huge amount of controversy within the Orthodox community there, with a flurry of editorials about it being printed in an-Nahar and elsewhere recently.
