What about frogs? I like frogs!

« on: October 06, 2011, 06:40:43 PM »

Last Thursday our male dog severely/seriously injured our son in a completely unprovoked attack/bite. This required 6 stitches, and if it had been 1/2 inch over her would have lost his eye. We surrendered our dog last Friday because we didn't feel it was safe to keep him in our home, or chance him in another home. Our children are very sad and miss the dog, but we are certain that we did the right thing. Our elder dog Tasha is very depressed and missing Boris. She is near the end of her life and misses the animal to animal companionship. We used to have a cat before we got Boris. Boris was not kind to the cat (and I needed the dog for home security while my husband was deployed) so we gave the cat away. We know that Tasha enjoys cats (and dogs) for companionship, and have decided that we should look into getting another pet sooner rather than later.

Our local humane society is offering a "Free adoption weekend" this Fri-Sun. Friday morning my husband and I intend to look at the cats (without the children present) and try to find a bonded pair of young cats. Normally getting two cats would cost about $200, so the fact that the adoption fees are waived helps us a great deal. There are a pair of purebred British shorthair young cats online that look to be perfect for our situation, but purebred animals go quickly. We intend to look at all the cats and find a bonded pair, but these kittens have really captured my interest/attention. If we don't find a good match we plan to wait to get some cats in the future. But it would be wonderful to find them this weekend when it won't cost us $200+.

Lord have mercy!

I know firsthand how important pets are, since my two cats have gotten me through some very difficult times. I can state though that whatever animal companions you find, whether they are the two you have your eyes on now or another pet that you will find only when you are there, that you were meant to have that pet and that the pet will be in good hands.

The British shorthairs went very quickly. But we picked up two very sweet kittens named Joachim and Anna. They are still adjusting to a home with 4 kids, once they are more comfortable I will try to post a picture.

Thank you so much for the prayer. The Humane Society was a ZOO! There were at least 50 people waiting in line to get in at 11am.

Fantastic! I'm glad you got a black cat. Reminds me of the cat of my youth.  Smiley

Wonderful!  All my cats are rescues, and I'm glad to see you adopted a black cat, as black animals are the least likely to be adopted.

I have heard that black animals don't get adopted as often as other animals. Anna is absolutely GORGEOUS, I can't understand why her color would be a problem. She doesn't photograph very well, but in person she is an extremely striking creature.

The cats have been introduced to all the kids and the dog and adapted extremely well. No accidents, which is impressive since at 4 months of age we weren't sure how litter trained they were.

Thank you again for the prayers, we have two excellent new family members and everyone is very happy. Pets really bring a lot of joy to a family. Smiley
