Is this icon of who it says it is?
« on: September 20, 2011, 08:24:16 PM »
Saint Porphyrius the Mime (or Actor) of Caesarea is a saint who really resonates with me for reasons I don't fully understand. I've had a hard time finding an icon of him online.

http://www.athineon.com/en/saint_porphyrius_hand_painted_50_60.aspx

Is this him as this kind of shady looking site alleges or is it Saint Porphyrius of Gaza? The attributes could go either way, I think. St. Porphyrius of Caesarea was converted in the midst of parodying baptism for Julian the Apostate but then again that could be a communion chalice (hence St. Porphyrius, Bishop of Gaza).

Also, St. Porphyrius of Caesarea was a martyr who didn't have time to write anything, whereas St. Porphyrius of Gaza has sayings attributing to him. Can anyone translate his scroll for me?

Is that what they teach you at the temple volnutt-stein?

Actually, it's Volnutt-berg.

Well, I'd be grabbing it, nevertheless. I mean it's marked down from 900 euros to 899 euros, what more could one ask?  ::)

I see the word "Mimeon" on the icon.

I believe the scroll says, 'baptize (or baptizing) them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.'

Yeah, I thought it said "mimeon" as well.

And thanks, biro. :)
