Just finished watching Sherlock.

It blew my mind in the good way thanks quite largely to Benedict Cumberbatch and the plot of the various arcs.

They better not give the "body double" excuse for Moriarty in the upcoming season next year though.

Yeah, it's a 6 episode mini-series with Mulder, Scully, etc. (obviously being a bit older). I've seen it said that if things go well this could develop into an ongoing series. I guess it's about the same kind of stories, but with updated stuffs for advances in technology (internet, government tracking, and so on)

Apparently the X-Files did good numbers last night. The second episode is on tonight... hopefully it'll be better. It was like old times though watching last night...

**spoilers**

Wrapping logic and reality in a cocoon of horror, till they asphyxiate. This was accomplished mainly through the patented Chris Carter method of going in 20 different directions with twists and swerves and half-explained lolwuts

Scully again has her integrity as a character sacrificed so that the story can move along

There are two sorts of people involved in alien conspiracies on the show: those who are masterminds behind a secret consortium that controls the world, and who can't be killed by any known weapon, and on the other hand those who are brilliant enough to be able to reverse engineer alien technology rivaling that of Star Trek but aren't smart enough to hire some security to stand guard at their secret lair

Cigarette smoking man is still just hanging around. Best villain of the 90s, I'm glad to see him back. Glad to see certified badass A.D. Skinner back as well.

I'm pretty sure the girl who played the part of Sveta is the most beautiful woman on earth; too bad about them blowing her up

For all that is merciful, please stop it with the Duchovny monologues! Yes, some poignant moments in the initial run came through those. You don't have to use them constantly though.

Mulder was at his typical jerky-oblivious, and Scully at her normal shrug-and-suffer; nothing new... sun

So Tri, you saw Making a Murderer as well? Wanna chat on some theories?
The dude is guilty. TV producers thrive on generating controversy where none exists. That is my theory. What's yours?
You didn't answer my question, did you see the entire 10 episode documentary?

I'd like to enter the discussion. I almost think this deserves it's own thread. I confess that I'm no legal expert, and that's why stuff like this frustrates me so much. I'm basically forced to choose which I trust more: the legal system or the media. It's a coin toss. But this doc sure does lead me to believe that these guys are innocent. Three drops of blood found in a car is evidence that a lady was raped, tortured, and then had her throat slit? What am I missing here?

I did watch all 10 episodes BTW.

Selam
Sure you can make a thread and we can discuss, but I would need to make sure Trisagion is forbidden to post in it until he sees the documentary.

I prefer you to make it since your opening posts are better than mine.

I'd love to chat about it, this case is constantly on my mind.

Supernatural was genius in its early years when it was geared toward men in the monster-of-the-week format. Now it is utter garbage since females took over its fandom. No real plot, too much shirtless Winchesters, nothing but Angels and Demons, and not a single attractive female character that lasts longer than a couple episodes. It really should have ended after season 5. For crying out loud, they fought the Devil himself. It doesn't get anymore dangerous than that. Everything that follows is going to feel anticlimactic in comparison.

Being watching "The 100" because there is little else that I find interesting in this Netflix lite that they have introduced outside the US.

Anyway, it was not horrible but neither great until the one character does a 180 and becomes a mass killer murderer because they took his lovey dovey...  ::)

I couldn't take it and switched it off.

I don't care for her, but neither do I care for this oppressive cold,  which, thanks be to God, is clearing up. But it's worth it. Visiting my little nieces--the one who used to be my avatar being one--and their nasty germs are worth it. Same with Dora.

I just finished watching the finale for Gravity Falls.

Ending's too happy. I wished they left the ending more bittersweet with Grunkle Stan not being able to regain his memories. That would've been better.

Agreed. Or at least having him spend much more time recovering his memories, similar to Fiddleford. But I have a theory that maybe his memories weren't destroyed to begin with, since his mindscape was already seeming empty when Bill came. Maybe he moved his memories to somewhere else? I'm not sure, but it does seem rushed. I though the zodiac felt a little clunky too, with a lot of people just kind of lazily thrown in. Not to mention it wasn't even used in the end.

The Perabmulating Deceased.  I just watched the show wade through a hoarde of commercials.  It got pretty tense at times, like that part where Matthew McConahee drove around that Lincoln MKZ.

I certainly got that vibe too.

The mindscape can be manipulated by the people in it which is what Mabel and Dipper did when they defeated Bill once, they used their imagination to manifest objects so I don't see anything weird with it since Grunkle Stan can just manipulate everything there.

I also feel that Bill is out of character like some immature kid going on a huge rant given how he's portrayed as cunning and calm. I wouldn't mind if he becomes like that after watching his plans fail consistently.

I think it would've been better if they had spread out the show over 3 seasons or even leave the whole final Weirdmageddon arc as a movie to better lay out the groundwork for the ending.

Personally, I prefer the ending to be more darker where Dipper have to actually kill Mabel to save the day and it is through this that Stanley and Stanford finally make up with each other.

Fargo turned out to be pretty good. (Thanks to Orthonorm for the recommendation.) I wonder if it might spawn a new genre of single season TV series.

Also binge watched the first season of Better Call Saul. Not great stuff, but the acting keeps it interesting. Enjoyable for the most part.

Just began Bloodline. First couple of episodes are pretty good. I'll keep watching.

I definitely think Weirdmageddon's arc would have worked a lot better as a movie, but alas, it was not to be. I think that would have involved to many resources for Disney to O.K. it. I honestly expected from the beginning of Season 2 that there would be two seasons and a TV movie, but I suppose that was wrong. But, for what we got, it was amazing, and besides a few minor setbacks that really can be explained as basically time constraints and perhaps a little Disney-fication, (I mean, I really, REALLY, don't think they would of had Dipper kill Mabel) it really did satisfy. Hirsch is starting a new show on Fox soon, and I'm excited to see what he does.

Bought the complete series at Walmart for $12. Delightfully schlocky. Right from the start, the show begins with a several-minute scene of so-painful-it's-funny exposition. All this would be expected from something starring Bruce Campbell, but I'm actually somewhat surprised it came from the two particular creators of it (who had previously mostly done seriouser action and drama)

Did the same. At first, 'meh' but the arc of time & character helped a lot. Enjoyed, and can hardly wait for Season 2 to be available, as it's not worth waiting weekly or staying up late.

Also watching this. I'd say it's the best show on TV right now, but I don't watch much TV, so... I think it's by far the best TV show of the half dozen newly-airing shows I watch each year. 8)

Also binge watched the first season of Better Call Saul. Not great stuff, but the acting keeps it interesting. Enjoyable for the most part.

Did the same. At first, 'meh' but the arc of time & character helped a lot. Enjoyed, and can hardly wait for Season 2 to be available, as it's not worth waiting weekly or staying up late.

Yeah, I'm doing the same thing. Waiting until I can watch season two all at once.

Also watching this. I'd say it's the best show on TV right now, but I don't watch much TV, so... I think it's by far the best TV show of the half dozen newly-airing shows I watch each year. 8)

Yes, the bar is pretty low these days for sure.

X-Files ****spoilers****

If social media is hit tomorrow with an avalanche of posts from anti-vaxxers, using the x-files episode tonight as some kind of serious evidence of what could happen in the real world, my head may just explode.

I just had an "old man experience" yesterday.

I was watching American Dad with a 10 year old boy who owned the show on DVD, and all I could think was "this kid should not be watching this show".

Usually I dislike American Dad / Family Guy because they are just really bad shows I never really thought about their (or anyone else) "moral content"...here I disliked it because I didn't think a 10 year old boy should be watching it because it's a bad influence not only because it's of poor quality, but also because it is inappropriate for a ten year old and is waste of time for a young boys energies.  I'm old.  I guess you watch things differently when there are younger people with you.

Someone made a good point to me though, as long as these shows and video games are going to be watched and played almost inevitably, at least they are being watched in adult supervision and are talked about openly with the adults.

2 points, clean basket, no swish, all net.
Kid is going to watch it, have adult there saying, NOT OFTEN, but appropriate timing and pithy stuff is great.
Being old also means you are concerned about what you made/bult and what you will leave behind with people.
Stories are the only thing that count; TV is full of stories, so give them good stories and your mores, outlook, POV, etc will give them a reference point...otherwise all they have is "the screen" and what is being passed along.
So leave your legacy and be hopeful  and positive so the future will carry on.
Simple, eh? No!? yeah, you are right: most folks don't want to listen to an old man. So use your wisdom, even though most will think, "There ain't no fool like an old...."

Supernatural was genius in its early years when it was geared toward men in the monster-of-the-week format. Now it is utter garbage since females took over its fandom.

Nope, it was garbage from the start. I say this as someone who has suffered through the entire series (wife loves it).

Better Call Saul **minor spoilers**

I know they wanted to end the show last night with a serious note with Mike--this show is primarily about how Jimmy gets from point A to B (Jimmy McGill to Saul Goodman), but it's also about the transformation of Mike from capable good guy to capable whatever-needs-done guy. Still, I think it would have been great if, when Nacho said to Mike: "There's a guy. I need him to go away," Mike would have responded with: "Go away? Like to Belize?"  ;D

Neverwhere.

So it's a radio play, big deal. Stellar cast, probably the last thing Christopher Lee did, and Gaiman himself puts in an appearance. I'll be binge-listening while it is available.
