I have work obligations at 8pm on most Saturdays. Vigil is at 6pm at my local Orthodox Church that I plan on attending soon. Is this a conflict? How long do most vigils last?

Where are you? maybe, there is another church with earlier vigil nearby. Anyway, you can go to confession  before liturgy if you have to leave vigil before 8.
also, try to attend weeknight vigils as much as possible.

The vigils at my church usually tend to last around an hour and a half.

Depends on the parish.  In ROCOR I have seen 2.5 hrs to 2 hrs 45 min on average. It is best to go for as long as you can before work than not to go at all. Talk to the priest about when to go to Confession. He may be able to hear your confession before or during Vigil, or before Divine Liturgy the following day.
