My pets are really 4 cats, but I don't have pics I can upload.  Guess the trolls and fair maiden will have to do Wink.

Naw. I just think they are annoying. Too much work, money, time, etc. And dogs shed way too much for my liking. I hate having dog hair on my clothes. Add that to the list of pet peeves.

This is my little girl, Miss Daisy Mae:

This Saturday will mark 5 years since she was rescued and I adopted her.  This picture was taken that Saturday afternoon, in front of the terminal.  Notice the sign...we were indeed united...lol

« Reply #64 on: January 13, 2013, 06:12:55 AM »

We have a dog named "the Kraken" and a dog named Gojira. One is a Aussie shepherd mix, one is a deerheaded chihuahua. Yes, we named our dog "the Kraken" specifically so we could say "Release the Kraken!" Now you all have a window into just how strange our little family is.

The cats are named Joachim and Anna.

We thought a Gods and Monsters theme would be good. But saints and monsters were as close as we got.

Yes, wonderful dogs. This is the latest of a long succession of this breed I've known over many decades. She's about 6 years old; wet through in this photo, but in any case clipped fairly short for the Australian summer.

Can thank J.K. Rowling...Hagrid is a half-giant character in Harry Potter books.

My Hagrid weighs 18 pounds, so its very fitting.  However he is a nimble giant who still routinely leaps into the air 2-3 feet while playing, and he is 10.

My kitty Crystal. She's a mess ... like a little tiger one second, and purring and licking my arm the next. But I love her. She's been with me through some tough times.

She always gets inside things. I was moving, and packing these plastic drawers with kitchen stuff. The bottom drawer was missing, so she climbed inside.

Crystal is my little Blue Eyes. She learned about sitting at the dining room table for meals when she was a kitten, so every time I would eat, she jumped up and sat quietly with me. She doesn't beg for food (except tuna or yogurt!) but she knows we sit at the table for meals, and she always joined me.

Mornings are her favorite time. She always gets on the bed while I'm making it, and plays while I'm trying to smooth everything out. Then when I finally get it made, I toss a toy so it "escapes" over the pillow so she can dive over and chase it. My bedroom now doesn't get morning sun, and I have a quilt with ribbonwork on it now so I don't let her stretch with her claws on it anymore, but she still likes to "help me" make the bed.

I didn't even want her - I was going to get a kitten for my daughter and was trying to pick a gray tabby from a large cage of feral rescue kittens, but she climbed the side, launched herself at me and landed on my shoulder, and refused to let me put her down. So ... we ended up adopting TWO kittens. Crystal became very precious to me. Smiley  She has asthma (her eyes are dirty in some of these pics because I have to clean them a couple of times a day), and I've almost lost her more than once, but I'm so thankful to have her.

Don't worry. I had a cat, a cream semi-longhair (he lost most of his winter fur during spring), who looked very dignified and handsome when he felt like it. Most other times, he looked like an unmade bed. He was the most undemanding, laid-back, good-natured sort. Sadly, he is no longer with us, we had to have him put to sleep almost a year ago because of kidney failure. He was fifteen.

OTOH, his sister, a shorthaired calico, was the most perfectly-proportioned cat I've ever seen, and not a hair or whisker out of place, her white patches were always spotless. She was clever and mischievous in equal measure. She, too, is now in kitty heaven, put down because of a jaw tumor a year and a half ago.

The one left standing is their older half-sister, a green-eyed black beauty. She's eighteen, but she hides her age well.  Smiley

"Feline overlord"

*chuckle*

Love the kitty watching the computer. It's so funny when they do that!

My daughter's cat will usually lie on the ottoman if "Too Cute" is on with cats and watch enraptured for hours. His attention flags during commercials if they don't feature cats prominently, but he loves to watch kitties on TV.

I used to leave David Attenborough's Wildlife specials on for him, on a bird episode, to keep him company when he was alone. He's something of a couch potato.

I understand. I used to be a "dog person" ... well, I still love dogs. But we got our first cat 15 years ago, and she seemed very special - she was gorgeous and demanded "love time" every day. Then a stray Maine Coon who was like a dog. Then a stray kitten who patrolled the farm with me - he was my buddy (but brought me very large prey sometimes!). And now my Crystal and my daughter's cat. I never knew before cats had such personalities, but they are pretty cool. I thought all of mine were special, but since I've had 5 cats and they've all been outstanding ... I'm thinking cats are just pretty cool. Smiley
