Since I now have to deal with strangers in public on a nearly daily basis now I've decided it is perhaps prudent to change my user name... but for anyone who is watchful you'll probably figure it out.

Make a contest out of it. The prize is the person gets to pick your username.

I'll switch with you. When people see "your posts", they'll realize there really was a side to you they had no idea about.

Don't embellish it. It will just distract from the pure simplicity. When making art, the hardest part is knowing when to stop.

Do whatever you want with alfie.

Actually this is a bad idea since someone "smart" will probably create an account and pretend to be me, if I am avoiding actually saying what it is. So cancelling the idea for now.

Well, there are two ways: Create a new account or have your username actually switched (but it still says what you last username was).

You're not supposed to create a new account, though. If they find out you did they'll scold you pretty harshly, make you go to your room without dinner, and ban/mute/something one of the usernames. Please don't recreate the Matthew777/Acolyte situation, mkay? Smiley

Thank you, Asteriktos, for pointing out that if enyone makes a duplicate account...that is a very serious matter here. The only problem is that you are a little bit incorrect:

Creation of a duplicate account very often results in BOTH accounts being banned, regardless of where the poster may be in the disciplinary Ladder of Ascent to Pain.  Wink

I can't create a new username if I want to have more privacy? Assuming it is a "sock puppet" and I am up to no good is an erroneous and unfair assumption.

I'll just leave then. I've been using my real name because I actually believe in accountability for what I say - but at the same time, I want less of my personal life going out to people I might actually meet that I don't want to. I'm not interested in any stupid games people with anonymity get up to.

It still will also say "User formerly known as Jason.Wike" too so that will not help any.

Jason (glad you thinking of getting rid of it because it is MY name),

You've shown some signs of anxiety and irritability here.

I am sure the mods would gladly accomodate you. We are just talking in general about the rules.

Your desire is reasonable and I am sure will be granted.

Just chill out a little.

OK; let's settle a few questions here.

It has been the policy for years to have as some sort of notification that if a person wanted to change their user name, that the former user name needs to be noted somewhere for the person to be 'trailed', so to speak. In the situation of Asteriktos, this was made more flexible due to the pastoral reasons behind the request.

Secondly, I did NOT state that I thought you were creating a sock puppet; I do not know why you feel this general statement applies specifically to you. I DID state that duplicate accounts are not permitted to prevent people from making sock puppets.

Anyone who is familiar with the  Get_Behind_Me_Satan / Walk_In_Truth / DeathToTheWorld / Mishakol129 / Pearl_Of_Great_Price / WithChristInGod / Mishakol / St_John_Chysostom  story will know exactly what I am discussing, and why we are so concerned about socks....it has happened before.
