Jesus didn't want anyone calling anyone else anything, I think. But regarding your question, maybe it has to do with the idea that father signifies someone who looks after or takes care of someone... sort of a spiritual father to a child... EDIT--I don't know what my faith is, so rather than change it every day, I just leave it blank for now  |

thanks salpy. I saw the podcast link too.... the hopko one.... and also the 1 corinthians 2:15 which i never read before. So they are called father because they are like spiritual fathers who represent God father. |

Because he is very intellectually minded and probably introspective, correct my assumptions if I'm wrong, so it can cause someone to ask the really hard questions that will test their faith. I'm the same way. Although I have no doubt, as of now and the future, that Orthodox Christianity is the true faith. |

selam poppy the tradition must have existed earlier than that but the first time a priest was called a father in the scriptures was byMicha on Judges 17:9-10 And Micah said to him, “Where do you come from?”
So he said to him, “I am a Levite from Bethlehem in Judah, and I am on my way to find a place to stay.”
Micah said to him, “Dwell with me, and be a father and a priest to me, and I will give you ten shekels of silver per year, a suit of clothes, and your sustenance.” So the Levite went in. as to why the orthodox Christians call thier priests Father is explained as usual beautifuly by the Reverend Father Hopko Blessed day |
