I am Bibleman; putting 'the' back in the Ukraine

« on: July 31, 2011, 05:18:54 AM »

I am planning, sometime in the early part of this coming month, buying my first icon.  However, I'm not really sure what one to get, and was hoping someone might have an idea.  I am planning on something with Christ, but I'm not really sure where to go from there.  Any suggestions are helpful.

Christ Pantokrator + Theotokos-and-child + John the Baptist + your patron saint is a good arrangement, patterned after the iconostasis of most churches.

It has been said that the whole of salvation history and the divine dispensation is summarised in the icon pair of the Theotokos-and-child (the incarnation) and Pantocrator (the eschaton) together.

I was leaning toward the Christ Pantokrator icon previously, and probably will start off with it.  Having never bought an icon before, does anyone who has experience buying online have any suggestions for where?  I know most monasteries have stores online, but I'm sure icon quality varies, as does how quickly they ship.
