"Orthodox Christianity" history DVD
« on: July 18, 2011, 05:59:06 PM »
Has anyone seen this? Is it good? What perspective is it told from? I'm not sure but I think the producers (Vision Forum Video) are evangelicals, so I'm wary.

I want something that gives the history of the Orthodox Church accurately, something I can let my husband and kids watch to try to interest them, and show them the ancient origins of the Orthodox Church.

Would this be good for that?

I don't know this book, but have you tried to search on Youtube?  That could be a good starting point.  There are so many posts on Orthodoxy.  I've always found it interesting how people come to Orthodoxy.  For some it's the history, some the service, some theology, some the Holy Scriptures, some through observing nature and others through hearing the chants.  But, we can never know what will be that one thing that will make the difference.  So try all the angles and see what happens.  What convinced you will not convince him.
Stillness,  prayer, love and self-control are a four-horsed chariot bearing the intellect to Heaven. (Philokalia 2: p.308 - #24) - St. Thalassios

The proper activity of the intellect is to be attentive at every moment to the words of God.   (Philokalia 2: p. 308 - # 30) - St. Thalassios

Fwiw, there are reviews of it on amazon.com, which might give some idea as to what it's like...
