Once upon a very long time ago, I was watching TBN and Paul Crouch claimed that Benny the Hinn had been made a "Knight of the Syrian Orthodox Church."  Shocked

I haven't even been able to find online if there is even such a thing as "Knights" in the Syrian Church. Does anyone know anything at all about this? I wouldn't be surprised if it was a snow job, the man is surrounded by questionable background claims.

You don't say... How do they work, just curious?

Chevalier means knight, so maybe that's what he meant.

Oh yes..my bad. Hmm, awarded for their contributions to the church i guess..But then Chevalier is given only to lay men, while Commander can be given to anyone. I can be wrong though..

Well, he is a "layman." Commander can even be given to the heterodox and heretical?

His dad is Greek and his mom is Armenian.  I think he is from Jerusalem.

Someone on this forum (I can't recall who) said something like this about him:  An EO got together with an OO and they had an Uh Oh.

Oh, so it's just an ethnic thing. I thought it carried some kind of theological statement.

His dad is Greek and his mom is Armenian.  I think he is from Jerusalem.

I saw that  laugh.

Kazakage is right, Chevalier is awarded to only laymen who are members of the church, where as Commander can be given to anyone. The only non Syriac Orthoox that has been awarded the title of commander is a prominent Indian Muslim business man Yousuf Ali. Mr. Yousuf Ali is a prominent business man in the Middle East with business in various Gulf countries. Using his influence with the ruling establishments in these Muslim countries, Mr Yousuf Ali helped the Syriac Orthodox faithful from India working as immigrant workers in the middle east establish Syriac Orthodox churches across various Gulf region countries. In recognition of his services to the church, he was conferred the title of 'commander'.

I am not aware of Mr. Benny Hinn being conferred the title of Chavalier or any other title by the Syriac Orthodox Church.

Thanks.

Knowing Hinn, he probably made it up.
