1.5 million Orthodox Christians -most of whom were pacifists- were killed during the Armenian genocide. Most Americans know of the Nazi holocaust, and yet are completely unaware of the Armenian holocaust.

Armenian churches have never been specially registered in Turkey, but about 2,200 Armenian churches are known to have existed in the country before 1912, Samvel Karapetyan, an expert in Armenian architecture, told a press conference...
“Only traces of some Armenian churches have been left. The others can be counted on the fingers of one hand. The most deplorable fact is that even the few remaining Armenian churches in Turkey are vanishing..." the expert said.
As to how Armenian monuments can be preserved in Turkey, Karapetyan said that it can at least be done by means of photography..."

I highly recommend Peter Balakian's
Black Dog of Fate as an addition to that reference list, although it's not so much a documentary in the ordinary sense. Peter Balakian did not live during the period of the genocide; he was in fact born and raised in the U.S. a generation after the event. What his book offers is unique autobiographical insight into the post-genocide culture and psychology of his parents' and grandparents' generation as he gradually came to experience, understand and appreciate it, beginning with his childhood years. In his college years he reaches a point of awareness regarding the Genocide that compels him to pursue an investigation into the matter. The latter half of the book presents his findings, including documentary evidence, interview transcripts, and narrative accounts of eyewitness testimonies of his family members.
