I've been in a discussion with some Anglicans, and I've been trying to represent an Orthodox POV, because some of them were talking about the Orthodox Church, but they were not really representing our true POV. So I decided to drop in and give the correct Orthodox POV...
Now I'm having a couple Anglicans telling me that what I'm teaching is not what the Orthodox Church teaches, and I need to better inform myself...
Some of these Anglicans claim to be ex-Orthodox, or at least, ex-Inquirers into Orthodoxy.
I really want to explode... So offensive... So arrogant...
What should I do in a situation like this? I know I want to explode and get pretty angry, but that wouldn't be the right thing... what should I do?

Greetings in that Divine and Most Precious Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
When the entire world was attacking Jesus Christ on the Cross, what was His reaction? It was to say in prayer, "Father forgive them, for they know not what they are doing."
It is from our love that we are recognized as Christians, not our ideological philosophies, our eloquent sermons, our esoteric writings, our delightfully inspiring culture..
We give love despite when we are hated or misunderstood, in fact at these moments we give MORE love, as love alone cools the fires of hatred. Love is a cooling breeze on the heat of upsetting and emotive outbursts. When we want to scream, we should scream internally and say, "Lord Have Mercy on Me, the Sinner."
When we manifest LOVE outwardly to those in dire need of love, we in time heal their wounds. People's anger and fear are just reflexive reactions to the Fractured condition Adam and Eve have left us in. When people are angry or afraid they are just carrying emotional poison, and we can react in one of two ways. We can either take their poison, poisoning ourselves and experiencing the same pity party pain those intended for us, or we can absorb such negativity with the love of our hearts and return them that antidote to the emotional poison stewing in their momentarily weak hearts. We can't know the seeds that we plant in others, even if at the surface or immediate responses seem unfruitful. We have to maintain our love and prayer from the depths and core of our being, having Faith that inevitable God can make A LOT of lemonade out of bad situations.
Stay Blessed, Habte Selassie

ask them what source they get thier info from. also sometimes Orthodox theologians disagree and present differing teachings; ie toll houses. Anglicans should understand this concept.

The same thing happens to me when talking to RCs on "that other forum." Generally an inquirer will ask a serious question, and it doesn't take long for someone to come along and condemn the Orthodox position or misrepresent it (and then tell us how lost we are without the papacy ). It is very frustrating. I will definitely be fasting from all forums during the Apostles' Fast, Lord willing. In Christ, Andrew

Yes, it is annoying when the faith is misrepresented. Unfortunatrly, Met. Jonah got caught up in some similar brouhaha (it was resolved).

I don't think it is too unbelievable to believe they are ex-Orthodox or ex-inquirers.
I've noticed that when talking to people who have converted between religions before and after there is a major change in how they approach a faith. There is someone I've known online for quite some time. When I met him he was an atheist, then he became a Muslim, then Orthodox, and finally Reformed. Talking to him about Orthodoxy has been interesting. He read everything when he was Orthodox (unfortunetly that includes men such as Calvin), and he could usually give the Orthodox position quite well. Since he left the Church he will tend to generalize when talking about the Orthodox Church, or try to apply hard fast rules where non-exist.
Most recently he was trying to convince me a certain Protestant group wasn't really Christian, arguing things such as their having beliefs contrary to (his interpretation of) scripture.
I suppose all you can do is approach such people with compassion, and pray that if they once had the truth, they will return to it.

Thanks everyone, I just dropped out of the conversation. It was on ChristianForums...
One of em claimed he told me what Orthodox believed even before I converted. Whether or not that is true, I don't care. He isn't currently Orthodox and what I know now comes from other Orthodox, who I'm going to trust far more than ex-Orthodox when it comes to our theology.

In many cases, those who have left a faith -- and I mean any faith -- are often misinformed about it or were never that devout about it. In my area, there are many ex-Catholics, but no matter how many official Church teachings you put in front of them their experience trumps all... And I'm not talking about people who held to folk beliefs or anything like that, but rather Catholics turned Baptists who want to tell you that they were forced to make sacrifices to the Mother of God or some such nonsense. I have found it best to walk away from such people.
