Metropolitan H.G Binyamin Joseph Mor Osthathios, of the Malankara
Syriac Orthodox Church passed away today (17 June 2004) early morning
around 4 AM at Kunnamkulam, Kerala, India. He was only 55.

H.G Joseph Mor Gregorios, the Metropolitan of Cochin, and the
secretary of the Holy Synod announced that the funeral services will
held on Saturday at 9:00A.M by H.B Catholicos Baselious Thomas I
assisted by all the bishops of the Church

Binyamin Joseph was born in the Panakal family of Kunnamkulam on 24th
June 1949 to Ukuru and Thandamma. After secular education at
M.J.D.H.S Kunnamkulam and St.Thomas College Trichur, he had his
seminary course at Manjinikkara Dayro. In 1974 at his 25th year, he
joined the St.Ephrem Syrian Orthodox Theological Seminary, Damascus
for higher studies in Theology. In his 28th year he was appointed as
a secretary to H.H Patriarch Moran Mor Ignatius Yakoob III.

He has also served as the Vice-Principal of the St.Ephrem Theological
Seminary. He also served H.H Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I, soon after
H.H's Enthronement as his first secretary upto 1984. As secretary to
His Holiness, he accompanied H.H during his travels in North and
South America, Turkey, Syria, Austria, Belgium, Holland, Rome,
Russia, Armenia and England.

In 1984 he was consecrated as Asst. Metropolitan of Simhasana
Churches and other Institutions of the Holy See in India. Following
the demise of Mor Yulius Yacoub Madapattu in 1992, H.G Benjamin
Joseph Mor Osthathios became the Abbot of Mor Ignatios Dayro
(Monastery) in Manjinikkara.
