Pope Shenouda Returns to the USA for Medical Treatment

"The head of the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, expressed his wishes for a speedy recovery for the head of Egypt's Coptic [Orthodox] Church, Pope Shenouda III, who is currently [in] the US for treatment..."

I hadn't realized that Pope Shenouda was so advanced in years (he's 88). God help him!

HH also canceled the annual meeting of the Coptic synod:

I don't know what signs such action gives :-\

He seems to be spending a lot of time of late receiving medical treatment in the USA :-(. Given his age the Coptic Orthodox Church may soon have to elect a new pope, which would be awful given the uncertainty right now about what's in Egypt's future :-/.

It's my understanding that Pope Shenouda has been battling health issues on and off for a few years now, and he is at quite an advanced aged (as was mentioned, he's 88).

We should all pray for His Holiness, a true saint of our times.

I've read some of his books.  Pope Shenouda is a prolific writer, a wise man and a man of deep prayer.  He says some profound things in his writings.

Lord have mercy!
Every day we should hear at least one little song, read one good poem, see one exquisite picture, and, if possible, speak a few sensible words. -Goethe

I once heard a monk say, “The person of prayer does not need to go any further than his own heart to find the source of all violence in the world.” -Fr. Stephen Freeman
