Gebre Menfes Kidus,
1.The Lord’s Prayer in Ge’ez:
Abune ze’besemayat (Our Father, who art in heaven)
Yitqedes simike (Hallowed be thy Name)
Timtsa mengistike (Thy kingdom come)
Weyikun feqadike (Thy will be done)
Bekeme besemay kemahu bemidir (On earth as it is in heaven)
Sisayene zelele’eletine Habene yom (Give us this day our daily bread)
Hidig lene abesane wegegayene (And forgive us our trespasses)
Keme nihneni nihidig leze’abese lene (As we forgive those who trespass against us)
Itabe’ane egzi’o wuste mensut (And lead us not into temptation)
Ala adihnene we’balihane emkulu ekuy (But deliver us from evil)
Isme zi’ake ye’iti mengist hayl we’sibhat (For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory)
Le’alem wele’alem alem amen. (for ever and ever. Amen)
2. “Holy God...” in Ge’ez:
"Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, Have mercy on us" in Ge'ez is
“Qidus Egzi’abher, Qidus hayal, Qidus hiyaw ze’iymewut, meharene”.
3. “Yemane Kristos”
“Yemane” means “right hand side”. Therefore, Yemane kristos is right hand side of Christ. Since I don’t know such a prayer, I have given four possible assumptions.
One: They may be mentioning the thief that was crucified on the right hand side of Jesus
Two: They may be mentioning Mary, as she is said to always stand on the right hand side of Jesus.
Three: You might have heard them saying “Meharene Kristos” and you mistaken that for “Yemane
Kristos”. Meharene Kristos is a common prayer meaning “Kristos have mercy on us”.
Four: Yemane Kristos is also a name. There are many individuals named as Yemane. Therefore you might
have heard them calling a person by this name who is serving in that church.
